AAA++ Libyan Desert Glass Carved Crystal Skull   The Symbol of The Higher Mind, The Stone of Fortune, Curiosity, & Learning!   This listing is for a very exciting and surely one of the most RARE types of Crystal Skull, this one has been hand-carved from a natural Libyan Desert Glass specimen!   It is extremely unusual to see Desert Glass used in the lapidary trade.  Typically the specimens are relatively small and not suitable for carving three dimensional shapes like a skull. However, we recently were fortunate to acquire some top quality rough material to carve a few skulls from.  Libyan Desert Glass is a natural glass composed of nearly pure silica (approx. 98%).  The formation of this glass, because of its unusual composition has long been considered as mysterious.  Chemical analyses show that the glass is locally enriched in meteoritic elements, with typical chondritic proportions.  The only explanation for these observations is that Libyan Desert Glass results from a meteorite impact on a silica-rich target, (ie. sand).  This amazing material is found only in one unique area:  the Libyan Desert of Egypt, forming approx. 28.5 million years ago! This skull is a LARGE size, it measures 2-3/16 inches long, and weighs precisely .22 lb. or 101.0 grams, equivalent of 505 carats.  It exhibits a rich colour  which seems to glow from within, as my photos below show.  The carving style is highly detailed, with much attention paid to achieving a correct shape and features.  The jaw and cheekbones have been hollowed out in Raven's trademark style.  The high-gloss polish adds the perfect finishing touch!  Metaphysically, the Symbol of the Skull represents The Higher Mind.  To attain the higher mind of spiritual awareness and psychic ability we must be released from the thrall of the lower cognitive mind.  The Skull also symbolizes Change, which is truly the great healer of all situations, conditions, and troubles.  Without Change in our lives, we do not spiritually grow.   In many cultures around the world, the Skull is seen as the House of the Soul and revered because of its tremendous importance to us as human beings.
