Description
Chartres Cathedral finger Labyrinth, 18 inches wide Solid MAPLE hardwood A beautiful replication of the "mother of all" labyrinths! This Chartres Cathedral labyrinth replica has great visual impact! the lines are a beautiful walnut veneer mounted on a light weight recycled wood substrate (near the color of canvas) with a smooth finish. The labyrinth path is carved into the surface, making it 'finger-walkable'. A useful tool for meditation, prayer, stress relief. ( these are sometimes referred to as finger meditation tools or laptop labyrinths)Use the mounting hole in the back to display in an honored place in home or office. This version of the finger meditation tool has been made popular through the work of Rev Lauren Artress and Veriditas.! The Chartres, 11-circuit Labyrinth was constructed around 1201 AD in the stone floor of Chartres Cathedral, France. Its unique distinguishing features are; 11 circuits, the turns arranged in four quadrants, 113 teeth around the perimeter, and a 6-petal rosette in the center. Medieval Christians visited Chartres (and other cathedrals) and walked the labyrinth as an alternative to taking a hazardous pilgrimage to Jerusalem to walk in the "foot steps of Christ." Modern "pilgrims" walk the labyrinth path as one of many tools to enhance prayer, contemplation, meditation, and/or personal growth. Chartres, France has been a destination for pilgrims and seekers since the middle ages. More information about labyrinths can be found at www.labyrinths.org How To Use a Finger Labyrinth Begin by setting the environment to your liking. Find a comfortable chair, location, or position. Remove jewelry, watches, bracelets, etc. Set music or background sounds. Adjust the lighting. Acquaint yourself with the labyrinth, examine the detailed carvings, and identify the variances in the wood grains that make this labyrinth unique in all creation. Adapt your breathing; trace the path from the outside with one or more fingers, following the groove toward the center. When you arrive at the center, stay a while. Complete your experience by retracing the path from the center outward. Try it with your eyes closed! Next time, try it with your other hand.
