Compiled by Catherine DeRosset Meares and published in 1906, this family history profiles prominent family members beginning as early as the 16th century but focuses on those "Immigrants to the Province of North Carolina Early in the Eighteenth Century" (according to the book's subtitle). Parts of the family documents used by Mrs. Meares were once printed in the magazine of the University of North Carolina and "aroused unlooked-for interest and called forth many requests that have induced this publication" according to Mrs. Meares in the book's Preface.The illustrations are preceded by tipped in vellum sheets that identify the subject. Subjects include some of the most prominant names in NC history. Its illustrations and pages (though loose) are in good condition for their age. The cover, however, has spots, edge wear, and spine problems. It would still make a fascinating addition to any genealogy collection, especially a North Carolina one. Thanks for looking.
